Poem of the Day: We're Over

We’re Over
By Corey Jensen

An apple dangles dangerously; drops.
Falls feet first into a cranium of ideas.
Revolvers shoot bullets of revolution.
Neurons dig deep trenches, and wait…
Drenched by a downpour of chemicals.
Brain cells bursting amidst warfare;
Each one cries, “Over hear.  Over there.”
I hear “We’re over.”

My heart floats far away, tied down
By a kite string—tears strung together
Woven over years singing forever,
Struck down by lightning sharp words
Broken on the ground; burning tears
Ignite the gasoline of liquid dreams
Smoke screaming, “Over hear. Over there.”
I know we’re over.

An apple dangles dangerously; drops
My heart floats far away; tied down.
Bubble gum wrappers; an old comb.
Dirty dishes, clothes, and lost dreams.
Tuna sandwich, Doritos, Bud light.
Slivers of glass; fight then flight
Open door; cold wind; empty bed
All say, “We’re over”.
