Journal Report #13

I'm going to keep this post short today because I have a lot of things to do to get ready for finals, and I also need to finish chapter two of my novel so that I can post it on blackboard later today.  I apologize now for the lack of originality and excitement in this blog post.  If you would like something a little more entertaining try watching MTV or something.

Reading:

I finished reading Beauty Queens.  One of the funniest books I've ever read.  It deals a lot with parody and also makes fun of a lot of pop culture.  I loved it.  I let my friend borrow it after I finished, and she read it in a single day.  I think that says about as much about it as anything.

I've been reading for my other classes, but I won't bore you with the grim details.   I've also been reading up on different editors and looking at query letter examples.  So much fun.  One day, I hopefully will be sending some out.

Writing:

Just been working on my Individual Project which I am enjoying quite a bit.  It's a different style than I'm used to, but overall its moving along quite smoothly.  Hopefully that means I will be able to stay motivated.  Here is a little bit more from it.

Mornings in the encampment didn’t start with any roosters crowing or with a sliver of light slipping through one of the cracks in our blanket walls, but, instead, came in an orchestra of sounds from people moving about to the pounding of metal.  Nobody slept in unless they could come across ear buds of some kind or they were deaf, but deaf people did not do well among the homeless because they couldn’t find work, and they couldn’t hear the guards coming.
“Good morning Rocky,” my sister says.  “It always amazes me how long you can stay asleep with all the ruckus going on out there.”
I pull the blankets over my head and roll over.  When it comes to morning people, I do not belong.  “Make it stop.”  Complaining is the one consistent thing about mornings for me.  We don’t always have food, but I always have something to complain about.
“You’re sixteen, not five.  Grow up already.”  My sister pulls the blanket off of me.  I try grabbing it as it shoots away, but all I manage is a handful of air.  “Besides, I thought you wanted to go to that reading thingy.”

My Crazy Life:

I started watching the LOTR trilogy last night.  We watched the first half of The Fellowship of the Ring extended edition.  I feel like a part of my childhood is coming back into my life.  It's a good feeling.  Well, that's enough from me for the day.  I hope you all have a great week.
