Poem of the Day

Living Words
By Corey Jensen

Words come alive, wake from the pages,
bring the fresh smell of olives.
Sheep bah a sweet lullaby,
angels hum a happy hymn.
A Shepherd brought to his knees,
sweat falls like sap, dripping .
Hands stretched out in pain,
Body shakes; tries to scream.
Stars blink, “We can’t watch.”
Close friends lay fast asleep.
The trees quiet, waiting,
in awe of the massive weight.

Words come alive, seep inside me
and bring a small stream of tears.
My heart hymns a soft song,
Spirit comforts, gives me strength.
A broken man falls face down,
Lips tremble, teeth chatter.
Hands clenched; knuckles white
thoughts cluttered; want to scream.
Mind clears, “I can’t do this.”
Still voice whispers of love,
wounded hands; open arms
waiting until our embrace
